UFC women’s bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey continues to inch closer to Hollywood stardom as her schedule gets ever busier.
Rousey, who later this month fights Sara McMann at UFC 170, has been tapped for two lead roles in two Warner Bros. projects, according to Variety.
The 27-year-old Rousey will have a starring role in the movie version of HBO’s “Entourage,” which currently is in production, and also is attached to lead a book adaptation of Brad Thor’s “Athena Project.”
Rousey’s “Entourage” part is set to film in mid-March after her third attempted title defense on Feb. 22 at Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Events Center. A timeline for “Athena Project” is unknown – the studio currently is shopping for a screenwriter.
Buzz from Rousey’s two previous film projects – “Expendables 3? and “Fast and Furious 7? – prompted Warner Bros. to approach her for a role on “Entourage” and seek out scripts for the UFC champ. One of those was “Athena,” which the studio bought after Rousey met and “clicked” with author Thor, a New York Times bestseller.
“Expendables 3? is slated for an Aug. 15 opening. As MMAjunkie previously reported, Rousey’s role puts her front and center in the action flick. She is a member of the “Young Expendables” with 20 scenes and 35 lines of dialogue, according to one version of the script.
The release of “Fast and Furious 7? was delayed until April 2015 following the unfortunate November passing of co-star Paul Walker.
Rousey (8-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) this past December defended her belt by submitting Miesha Tate with her favored armbar at UFC 168, which followed a coaching stint on “The Ultimate Fighter 18.” It was the first time she was forced to fight outside the first round after seven straight pro wins via armbar.view original article >>
