Report: Hugo Viana meets Guido Cannetti at August's UFC 190 in Rio de Janeiro

The UFC’s August return to Rio de Janeiro will have a “Wolverine” and a “Ninja” facing each other looking to avoid the first losing skids of their careers.

According to a report from Tatame, Hugo Viana (8-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC), from Brazil, is set to meet Argentina’s Guido Cannetti (6-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) in a bantamweight bout at UFC 190. UFC officials have yet to formally announce the matchup.

Featuring UFC women’s bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey vs. Brazilian challenger Bethe Correia, UFC 190 takes place Aug. 1 at Rio de Janeiro’s HSBC Arena. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

“Wolverine” Viana, a member of the first season of “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil,” is looking to get back on track after a TKO loss in July 2014 to Aljamain Sterling at UFC Fight Night 45, which was his fourth straight fight in the United States after debuting with the promotion in his home country at UFC 147. He started his UFC run with a pair of wins before a loss to current bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw. He bounced back with a decision win over Junior Hernandez before his loss to Sterling.

“Ninja” Cannetti was part of the first season of “TUF: Latin America.” Although he lost his first fight inside the house, he became a semifinalist when he replaced first-round winner Marlon Vera against Alejandro Perez. He made his official UFC debut at UFC 180 this past November in Mexico and was submitted in the second round by fellow cast member Enrique Briones, which snapped a four-fight winning streak of first-round finishes outside the unofficial “TUF” losses.

With the addition to the card, UFC 190 now includes:

• Champ Ronda Rousey vs. Bethe Correia – for women’s bantamweight title
• Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Mauricio Rua
• Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Stefan Struve
• Rafael Cavalcante vs. Patrick Cummins
• Soa Palelei vs. Antonio Silva
• Neil Magny vs. Demian Maia
• Guido Cannetti vs. Hugo Viana
