As a reminder, tickets for the UFC’s July return to the FOX network go on sale today.
UFC on FOX 12, which features a welterweight showdown and title eliminator between Matt Brown (19-11 MMA, 12-5 UFC) and Robbie Lawler (23-10 MMA, 8-4 UFC), takes place July 26 at SAP Center in San Jose, Calif. The main card airs on FOX following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
UFC Fight Club members can purchase tickets today at 10 a.m. PT local time. In addition, UFC e-newsletter subscribers can purchase their tickets on Thursday at 10 a.m. PT. Tickets for the general public go on sale Friday through Ticketmaster or the SAP Center box office at 10 a.m. PT. Prices range from $75 to $175, plus fees.
Lawler is ranked No. 3 and Brown is No. 5 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA welterweight rankings.
Brown recently picked up his seventh straight UFC win after scoring a dramatic come-from-behind TKO victory over Erick Silva in UFC Fight Night 40's headliner. It was his sixth knockout in the seven-fight run, which also includes four post-fight bonus awards. Despite wins over Mike Pyle, Jordan Mein and Mike Swick, “The Immortal” has been criticized for lack of quality competition during his run at the belt. That would change with a win over Lawler.
Lawler narrowly lost to champion Johny Hendricks in March in a bout for the vacant welterweight belt. The 32-year-old, who now trains out of Florida’s American Top Team, rebounded from that setback at UFC 173 with a lopsided TKO win over Jake Ellenberger. “Ruthless” is now 4-1 in his past five fights, which came after a move from middleweight to welterweight.
UFC on FOX 12 also features several San Jose-area fighters, as Josh Thomson meets Michael Johnson; Noah Lahat takes on Steven Siler; and Kyle Kingsbury returns against an opponent still to be named.
