UFC welterweight Johny Hendricks will bring a big brand into his corner for his upcoming fight with champion Georges St-Pierre.
Apparel giant Reebok is extending its sponsorship of Hendricks in advance of his title bout at UFC 167, which takes place Nov. 16 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. Hendricks’ sponsor agent, Oren Hodak of KO Reps, confirmed the deal.
“I am very excited to extend our relationship with Reebok,” Hodak stated on KO Reps’ website. “After our meetings at the Reebok corporate headquarters in Boston, I was confident that a long-term deal was soon to follow. We look forward to providing Reebok with an incredible amount of exposure just as we have done with so many other great sponsors.”
In May Reebok made inroads into the MMA sponsor market when it backed Hendricks and UFC lightweight Jamie Varner for a Spartan Race, which times participants as they go through an obstacle course. The fighters visited the company’s headquarters in Canton, Mass., to meet with company officials and test products.
Hendricks and Varner also got a shopping spree in the Reebok employee store.
Reebok also has partnered with Bellator fighter Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, who starred in an ad for the company and received a signature shoe.
Hendricks (15-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC), who’s won his past six in the UFC, currently is training for the St-Pierre (24-2 MMA, 18-2 UFC) fight at Oklahoma State University, where he won two NCAA Division I national wrestling championships at 165 pounds.
