The cable channel Monday announced that Randy Couture and Frank Shamrock will host “Gym Rescue,” a series in the vein of Spike’s “Bar Rescue” and “Tattoo Rescue” which will see the former MMA champions try to revive struggling gyms. The three-episode series is set to debut Aug. 10 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
Shot on location in Florida and Colorado, “Gym Rescue” will not focus solely on MMA gyms, with Couture and Shamrock taking on everything “from traditional gyms to military-style boot-camps to yoga studios.” The series is part of a “multi-year creative partnership” between Spike and Couture which was announced in February 2013.
In addition to operating their own gyms, Couture and Shamrock served as coaches on the inaugural season of “Fight Master.” Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney told MMAJunkie.com in January that there are no plans to mount a second season of the tournament-based reality show.
