The Ultimate Fighting Championship confirmed on Tuesday night that a lightweight showdown between former champion Rafael dos Anjos and hopeful title contender Tony Ferguson will headline The Ultimate Fighter Latin America 3 Finale on Nov. 5 in Mexico City.
MMAWeekly.com first reported the news of the fight earlier in the day on Tuesday, but it hadn’t been finalized at that point. The ink has now been put to paper, and the fight will headline the TUF Latin America 3 Finale, which will also feature the finals of the third season of the Latin American version of the venerable reality show. It marks the fight promotion’s fourth event in Mexico.

dos Anjos (25-8) recently had a five-fight winning streak ended and lost the UFC lightweight championship when Eddie Alvarez upset him at UFC Fight Night 90 in Las Vegas. dos Anjos had reeled off victories over Jason High, Benson Henderson, Anthony Pettis, Nate Diaz, and Donald Cerrone prior to the first-round TKO loss to Alvarez.
With the belt now around Alvarez’s waist, dos Anjos hopes to earn his way back to a title shot by defeating the No. 3 ranked fighter in the division.
Having won The Ultimate Fighter 13, Ferguson (21-3) has only one blemish on his record during his five-year UFC tenure. His lone defeat was at the hands of Michael Johnson four years ago. Ferguson has since won eight consecutive bouts, including wins over the likes of Edson Barboza and former Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson.
A victory over dos Anjos would likely put him next in line for a shot at the title.
The Ultimate Fighter Latin America 3 airs in the U.S. on FOX Sports 1. Tickets go on sale on September 2.
