RFA vs. MFC cross-promoted event? Andrew Simon gives it '75 percent' possibility

Perhaps that potential cross-promoted show pitting RFA fighters vs. their MFC counterparts isn’t so farfetched after all.

Earlier this month, MFC CEO Mark Pavelich and RFA President Ed Soares got heated on MMAjunkie Radio while debating the talent each promotion produces (check out the video below). That led to a best-of-five challenge with top fighters from each promotion battling each other. Pavelich even said he’d leave the sport if MFC loses.

While it could be easy to dismiss the idea as promoter bravado, the CEO of the two organizations’ broadcast partner, AXS TV, gives it a “75 percent” change of happening. In fact, he said the company is willing to help out to make it happen.

And what kind of help is needed?

“Financial,” he told MMAjunkie Radio. “Who keeps ticket sales? Who keeps sponsorships? … I’d like to make everybody feel it’s financially worthwhile. So if there’s something in there that we can help with to make it worthwhile, we would. We’d step in to make it financially worthwhile for both sides.”

Both organizations are among the best regional promotions in the sport. In addition to providing a home for UFC castoffs, MFC and RFA have also developed top prospects who went on to sign with the industry leader.

Simon said he’s “not into staged stuff,” and the idea of an MFC vs. RFA show appealed to him because Pavelich and Soares genuinely seem to dislike each other. He also likes the prospect of two AXS TV promotions battling for supremacy. (In fact, he said Legacy FC owner Mick Maynard is also interested in getting involved.)

“From an AXS TV perspective, again, I’m a TV broadcaster,” he said. “I try to help with matchups. I try to help put events on. If it was a financial thing, I would definitely step in to make it work.”
