One FC Returns to Jakarta in September, Featuring Flyweight Championship

one fc beltOne Fighting Championship is returning to Jakarta on Sept. 13 for a show that will be headlined by a flyweight world title fight between Japanese rivals Yasuhiro Urushitani and Shinichi Kojima.

The show takes place at the 15,000-seat Istora Senayan. The main event features two fighters who have faced each other on two previous occasions. Urushitani and Kojima met 2005 and 2007 while competing for Shooto with both bouts both ending in a draw.

The fight between Kojima (20-6-6) and Rey Docyogen at One FC: Return of Warriors in Kuala Lumpur earlier this year was a designated title eliminator, which the Japanese veteran won with a guillotine choke late in the second round.

Urushitani (20-6-6) is also coming off a win over Docyogen, whom he defeated via split decision at One FC: Rise to Power in Manila last month. Both men have previously held the Shooto bantamweight (123-pound) belt and will be competing to become the first ever One FC flyweight champion.

One FC also has already set two fights on the undercard of the as-yet-unnamed Sept. 13 show. Both will see Indonesian debutants take on Malaysian opponents in matches presumably put together by Matt Hume to capitalize on the sporting rivalry between the two nations.

Indonesian light heavyweight Vincent Majid (0-0) will make his professional MMA debut after competing successfully in kickboxing, submission grappling and Combat Sambo. He takes on Malaysia’s Eugenio Tan (1-1), who comes from a boxing background.

In a bantamweight bout, Stefer Rahardian (0-0) steps into the cage for the first time. He represents the Synergy Academy founded by Indonesia’s first-ever BJJ black belt, Niko Han. His opponent is Raymond Tan (1-0), a Malaysian who also comes from a grappling background and is dropping down from 155 pounds.

Despite reports to the contrary the Jakarta show won’t necessarily be One FC’s next card. The press conference and publicity tour were pushed forwards because Ramadam starts next month in Indonesia and it is likely more events will be announced between now and September.
