One FC Champions & Warriors Results: Vuyisile Colossa Outpoints Kotetsu Boku

Colossa Defeats Boku-One FCSouth African Muay Thai standout Vuyisile Colossa registered the biggest win of his burgeoning MMA career with a unanimous decision victory over former lightweight champion Kotetsu Boku in the main event of ONE FC: Champions & Warriors on Friday.

There were ten fights on the card at the Istora Senayan Stadium in Jakarta. The main event was one of only three to go the distance with six of the bouts finishing inside the opening round.

Boku is best known for the come-from-behind win over Zorobabel Moreira last year, which saw him crowned the inaugural ONE FC 155-pound titleholder. This fight started out in similar style with Colossa punishing the Japanese veteran with a series of low kicks.

Whereas against Moreira he had been able to turn the fight around by landing a big right hand, Boku struggled to mount any sort of offence against the South African and found himself on the receiving end of an increasing frequency of strikes as the fight progressed.

In round three, Colossa looked close to finishing the fight when he hurt Boku with a knee to the solar plexus and then attacked with a flurry of punches, but the Shooto veteran weathered the storm and survived until the end of the round.

With the win, Colossa improved to 6-4, while Boku dropped to 20-9-2. Speaking after the fight the South African, who has been in with the likes of Eduard Folayang, Yui Chul Nam and Lowen Tynanes, Colossa called out reigning ONE FC champion Shinya Aoki.

Jake Butler continued his rapid rise through the light heavyweight ranks with a third successive first round win. The American only made his debut in February, but is already 3-0 after stopping James Kouame with an opening-round arm triangle choke, which saw the Canadian kickboxer drop to 2-2.

Butler’s Evolve MMA teammates both registered wins as well, with Brazilian flyweight Almiro Barros marking his professional debut with a decision victory over Kian Pham, which took the Australian’s record to 6-8.

The other Evolve MMA fighter on the card was Bruno Pucci. The featherweight remains undefeated after submitting Bashir Ahmad with a rear naked choke in the opening round.  That means the Pakistani fighter drops to 2-1 while the Brazilian moves up to 3-0.

Speaking after the show, ONE FC CEO/Owner Victor Cui stated that his promotion would be returning to Jakarta in the near future.

“ONE FC put on another night of exciting world class MMA action that captivated the Indonesian audience and the millions of viewers around the world. Local heroes emerged while international stars staked their claims for a title opportunity with impressive finishes. ONE FC: Champions & Warriors proved to be a resounding success and ONE FC will be back in Indonesia very soon.”
