'ONE FC 12: Warrior Spirit' set for Nov. 15 with welterweight title fight

adam-kayoom.jpgONE Fighting Championship hosts its 12th event on Nov. 15, when the Asian fight promotion will crown its first welterweight champion.

“ONE FC 12: Warrior Spirit” takes place at Putra Indoor Stadium in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In the headliner, Adam Kayoom (4-1) and Nobutatsu Suzuki (10-1-2) fight for the inaugural welterweight title.

The event streams via online pay-per-view in North America.

“We are coming back to the capital of Malaysia to put on one of the greatest fight cards in Asian MMA history,” ONE FC CEO Victor Cui stated. “We will finally settle the question of who deserves to be called the top welterweight fighter on the planet. ONE FC is putting together a fight card that will blow away the millions of passionate fight fans all around the world.”

Currently, no other fights have been announced for the card.

Kayoom, a 35-year-old Malaysian and longtime martial artist, looks for his third straight ONE FC win. After fighting infrequently after his pro debut in 2003, the muay Thai, jiu-jitsu and taekwondo champion scored a come-from-behind victory over Gregor Gracie at ONE FC 4 in 2002. Then, earlier this year at ONE FC 7, he scored a first-round submission victory over Zuli Silawanto.

He takes on Suzuki, a 36-year-old Japanese fighter who rebounded from his only career loss (to former UFC fighter Keita Nakamura) with a ONE FC debut win over Phil Baroni in May. It marked the karate black belt’s 10th knockout in 10 career wins.
