ONE Championship 32 is less than 24 hours away, and the stakes of the planned championship headliner are still unknown.
Headliner Luis Santos missed weight for Friday’s event at today’s official weigh-ins, and it’s not clear how his fight with welterweight champion Ben Askren will pan out.
Santos weighed 172 pounds for the 170-pound title fight, and according to ONE Championship officials, the bout is “still under negotiation.” So, not only are the title stakes gone, but the bout, which streams as an online pay-per-view in North America from Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore, could be scrapped altogether.
Following the weigh-ins, Askren, who’s ranked No. 5 in the NOS Energy Drink MMA welterweight rankings, unleashed a flurry of tweets about Santos, who fought the champ to a no-contest in April (Santos absorbed an accidental eye-poke from Askren and couldn’t continue). Via Twitter:
