Nevada Athletic Commission Chairman Issues Statement Regarding Keith Kizer’s Resignation

Longtime Nevada Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer on Friday surprisingly resigned his position as the head of the body that regulates mixed martial arts and boxing in Nevada.

“Just going back to lawyering,” he told MMAWeekly.com on Friday when asked why he was resigning his post.

Nevada State Athletic Commission Chairman Francisco Aguilar issued the following statement in regard to Kizer’s decision:

“Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) Executive Director Keith Kizer has accepted a position with the Nevada Attorney General’s office, and will leave the Commission effective January 27. The Commission board will begin an immediate search for Mr. Kizer’s replacement. The board is grateful to Keith for his nearly eight years of dedicated service, which included the Commission’s strongest years with regard to health and safety and fiscal soundness. My fellow commissioners and I wish Keith all the best in his new role.”

The statement also included the following accomplishments credited to Kizer during his tenure, which began in 2006.

No Deaths
More effective licensure testing

Steroid and drug testing:
Went from testing 2-4 athletes per card to testing everyone per card
Out-of-competition testing added
Successful (and fair) prosecutions

Biggest MMA gates
