Nate Diaz apparently crashed Conor McGregor's UFC 205 victory party

UFC featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor celebrated his UFC 205 win at a popular New York City club, according to multiple reports.

An old friend also showed up – Nate Diaz, his two-time opponent and the latest addition to a line of fighters calling out the Irish champ.

Diaz (19-11 MMA, 14-9 UFC) crashed Marquee New York, where McGregor (21-3 MMA, 9-1 UFC) arrived in a custom Rolls-Royce Phantom, drank $300-a-bottle “Ace of Spades” champagne, and danced to hip-hop – per gossip column “Page Six.” TMZ Sports has video (via YouTube):

The two-time opponents managed to avoid each other, but Diaz’s mere presence gets the ball rolling on a trilogy fight pumped up by McGregor before he avenged a March loss to the Stockton, Calif., native in August and became a two-division champ this past Saturday when he defeated Eddie Alvarez (28-5 MMA, 3-2 UFC) at Madison Square Garden.

“There won’t be a trilogy fight right away, but there will be,” McGregor, the No. 1 fighter in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA featherweight rankings, said before his successful rematch with Diaz in August at UFC 202. “We will do it three times. One hundred percent.”

It’s no great surprise that the rivals would want to run it back again, given their fights at UFC 196 and UFC 202 were absolute blockbusters. And with McGregor reportedly breaking the UFC’s pay-per-view record at UFC 205, Diaz stands to benefit handsomely and pick up his new belt along the way.

That’s probably why, not long after McGregor concussed No. 1-ranked lightweight Alavarez to take the lightweight title, Diaz tweeted a hand waving to his old foe (via Twitter):

For the UFC, a trilogy is sure to add hundreds of millions to the promotion’s bottom line, so it’s hard to imagine much resistance from the promotion.

But as McGregor willed it, he’s now in the driver’s seat when it comes to the shape of his future. After having a baby with his longtime girlfriend, he’ll return to a host of potential opponents: Diaz, welterweight champ Tyron Woodley, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Tony Ferguson and Jose Aldo, among others. He’ll also have a few demands for the UFC’s new owners.
