More Filipina octagon girls? Red Dela Cruz hopes she's the only one

PASAY, Philippines – When Red Dela Cruz won the spot as the UFC’s first Filipina octagon girl, there was one thing she was very excited to do: meet Arianny Celeste.

Dela Cruz, a professional model who came into the gig with cage girl experience, made her debut at UFC Fight Night 66, the promotion’s first event in the Philippines. The card was held at SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.

“At first it was really, really nerve-wracking,” Dela Cruz told MMAjunkie before the event. “There was a lot of Filipina who auditioned. I’m very proud the UFC chose me.”

When asked if she thought there would be more Filipina women brought in to be octagon girls, she didn’t hide her desire to be the only one.

“I hope I’m the only one,” she said, laughing.
