Michael Bisping's 'annoying' toe injury looks like a piece of bacon hanging off his foot

GLASGOW, Scotland – It’s not often that fighters leave the octagon free of bumps and bruises. The toe injury suffered by Michael Bisping at UFC Fight Night 72, however, was one of the more grotesque in recent memory.

Bisping (27-7 MMA, 17-7 UFC) escaped the main event of the UFC’s first fight card in Scotland with a split-decision victory over Thales Leites (25-5 MMA, 10-4 UFC). He used his technical striking ability to add up points over the rounds and ultimately left the octagon with his 17th UFC victory.

UFC commentators Mike Goldberg and Brian Stann noted several times over the five-round contest that Bisping’s mobility and footwork did not look like his typical self. Now there’s an answer as to why.

Bisping received a significant cut on his left big toe at some point in his bout with Leites. Miraculously, though, he didn’t show any signs or pain or acknowledge the injury at any point. That surely won’t be the case once the adrenaline of the fight wears off.

“It’s nice you go out and put a hard-fought, five-round fight and all people want to talk about is the toe,” Bisping told MMAjunkie after the bout. “It’s just an annoying injury. Every step was painful. But I’m not going to complain.”
