The Canada-based promotion announced the signing on Friday. Silva is expected to make his debut at MFC 36 “Reality Check” on Feb. 15 in Edmonton, Alberta, against an as-yet-to-be-named opponent. The card will air live on AXS TV.
“Jay Silva is a huge talent, and can become an absolute wrecking machine in the Maximum Fighting Championship,” MFC President Mark Pavelich stated in a release. “The days are over when Jay took fights at the last minute, on short notice and without a proper training camp. He knows he’s fighting in February and I think you’ll see the best Jay Silva ever. The rest of the middleweight division should take notice now because a rejuvenated, reincarnated Jay Silva is coming to the MFC.”
Silva has competed twice in 2012, most recently dropping a split decision to Michal Materla at KSW 19 in May. Prior to that defeat, the 31-year-old Reign MMA member submitted “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 3 winner Kendall Grove in the second round at Superior Cage Combat 4 in Las Vegas.
Silva’s stint in the UFC was brief, as the Huntington Beach, Calif., resident lost decisions to C.B. Dollaway and Chris Leben in his only two Octagon appearances.
