The debate about Travis Browne poking Matt Mitrione in the eye, twice, at UFC Fight Night 81 will likely rage on, but regardless of whether or not you felt it was intentional or if you disagreed with the referee not deducting a point, the outcome is the same. Browne got the win.
While the eye pokes, which Browne declared were incidental infractions as the result of him reacting defensively when Mitrione moved forward once in the first round and again in the second frame, it’s difficult to assess how much affect they had on the fight. What is easy to assess is the damage that Browne did in the third round with a huge slam and a barrage of punches.

One shot in particular immediately caused Mitrione’s right eye to swell grotesquely.
After the fight, Mitirione learned that he suffered a broken orbital floor.
Mitrione did not reveal his expected downtime from the injury, but that depends upon the extent of the injury and prescribed road to recovery, which likely hadn’t yet been fully assessed.
Broken orbital floor. This and the shoulder happened after the 2nd eye poke. I don’t think they would’ve happened pic.twitter.com/wFn1NC3j5Y
