A welterweight match-up between Matt Brown and Erick Silva will headline UFC Fight Night 40 in Cincinnati on May 10. Fox Sports first reported the news on Monday and UFC officials later confirmed the headlining bout.
Brown (18-11) is riding a six-fight winning streak. He was scheduled to face Carlos Condit at UFC on Fox 9 on Dec. 14, but a back injury forced him out of the fight. The 33-year-old hasn’t been defeated since 2011 and is currently ranked seventh in the 170-pound division. The Ohio native lobbied to be on the card.
Silva (16-4, 1 NC) has fought in the UFC seven times amassing a 4-3 promotional record. He knocked out Takenori Sato in his last outing on Feb. 15 and earned a Performance of the Night bonus.
UFC Fight Night 40 takes place at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati on May 10. The last time a UFC event was held in Cincinnati was UFC 77 on Oct. 20, 2007.
