Heavy-handed Brazilian Fabio
Maldonado (pictured) has suffered an undisclosed injury and
will not compete against Aaron Rosa as
originally anticipated at UFC
Live 6, the promotion announced Wednesday. Headlined by a
bantamweight title fight pitting champion Dominick
Cruz against challenger Demetrious
Johnson, UFC Live 6 goes down Oct. 1 from the Verizon Center in
Washington, D.C. Also featuring a heavyweight contest between
Pat
Barry and Stefan
Struve, the event marks the promotion's first trip to the U.S.
capital. Maldonado recently had an 11-fight winning streak snapped
in his sophomore Octagon effort on June 4 at “The Ultimate Fighter
14” finale. After debuting successfully with the world's largest
promotion at UFC 120 this past October, the 31-year-old was bested
by Kyle
Kingsbury this summer. Though Maldonado displayed solid boxing
throughout the contest, attacking both Kingsbury's head and body
with stiff shots, it was not enough to sway the judges' scores in
his favor. The Team Nogueira representative owns 12 of his 18 career MMA
victories by knockout. Maldonado also holds a perfect pro boxing
record, posting 22 wins with 21 knockouts.
