Lyle Beerbohm Rides Six-Fight Winning Streak into WSOF 3 Bout with Jacob Volkmann

Following back-to-back losses in Strikeforce in 2011, lightweight Lyle “Fancy Pants” Beerbohm has rebounded with six wins in a row as he heads into his World Series of Fighting debut on June 14.

“I didn’t go anywhere or do any camps or anything like that,” said Beerbohm of his rebound. “I haven’t changed anything. I’ve got great training up here in Spokane (Wash.), so things are good.

“I’ve been doing a lot of MMA sparring and working on my stand-up and am always doing my submission wrestling and grappling.”

During his winning streak, Beerbohm was most tested at ShoFight 20 when he faced former top-ranked Marcus “Maximus” Aurelio in June 2012 and was pushed to a unanimous decision victory.

“Marcus was very tough,” said Beerbohm. “He is super-tricky on the bottom. I thought he was done in the third round, but he still managed to pull an armbar out of nowhere, so he was tricky all the way through. He was a tough, good opponent.”

Beerbohm will look to be tested again at WSOF 3, live on NBC Sports Network, when he takes on UFC veteran Jacob Volkmann in a 155-pound showdown.

“He’s got decent hands and is a super-good top grappler. He likes to be on top and grind his opponents out, so it’s going to be a tough fight for me,” Beerbohm told MMAWeekly.com.

“We are both top level grapplers who want to be on top, so when it comes down to it, it’s all about who can get top position and stay there. Any time you try to stand with Jacob, he’ll take you down, so we’ll just kind of play it by ear and see how it goes.”

Beerbohm looks at his opportunity with the WSOF as a second chance to make a run in a big promotion and achieve his career-long goal of becoming a titleholder.

“I’ve only been fighting five or six years and half that time I was injured, so this is definitely going to be my second wind for sure,” he said. “My game is evolving and I’m a lot better than I used to be. My body is all healed up. I feel great, everything is and I’m ready to go.

“I don’t want to look past Jacob, but in the future I do want to fight for a title. That’s my goal; I want to be WSOF champion. I want to get past Jacob and go from there.”
