If ever there was a time to believe in a curse, UFC president Dana White has to believe that time is now. Another day dawned and another fighter fell to injury on Monday.
Luiz Cane has been forced off of the UFC 150 fight card for Denver due to the now infamous injury bug, according to UFC officials.
Cane was slated to take on Japan’s Yushin Okami on Aug. 11 at the Pepsi Center in the Mile High City, but will now instead be sitting on the sidelines watching one of his countrymen take his place.
Rousimar Palhares (14-4) will be looking to rebound against Okami after Alan Belcher TKO’d him at UFC on Fox 3 in May. The Brazilian had been on a three-fight winning streak, edging ever so close to the elusive UFC title shot.
Okami (26-7) is in a much more dire situation. He’s been there and had his title shot against UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
He failed in his title bid, losing via TKO. Okami was on the rebound at UFC 144 in his home country of Japan, getting the better of Tim Boetsch for the first two rounds of their fight. Boetsch, however, turned the tables in round three, handing Okami his second consecutive TKO loss.
Palhares and Okami will serve as part of the supporting cast for the UFC 150 main event featuring a rematch between UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson and challenger Frankie Edgar.
