Luis Santos to Face Igor Svirid at ONE: Titles & Titans in Jakarta

Luis Santos to Face Igor Svirid at ONE: Titles & Titans in Jakarta

A former champion faces a former title challenger in the main event of ONE: Titles & Titans later this month. The card is set for the Jakarta Convention Centre on Aug. 27 and will be headlined by a welterweight bout between Luis Santos and Igor Svirid.

Santos (62-9-1) is fighting in Indonesia for the second time this year. He has already been handed two welterweight title shots, but the first ended in a no contest and the second was cancelled when the Brazilian couldn’t make weight.

Igor SviridDespite these setbacks, Santos remains undefeated in the ONE Championship cage and has had no issues making weight since the organization introduced rules forcing fighters to compete at their normal walking weights.

His opponent will be making his welterweight debut. Svirid (10-2) was the inaugural ONE Championship middleweight champion, but lost his strap after being stopped in the second round by Vitaly Bigdash in one of the best fights of 2015.

The Kazakh suffered several injuries in that bout and has been out of action for the best part of a year. He will be looking to bounce back with a win that would immediately establish him as a top contender in the welterweight division.

The card also features a middleweight bout between Marcin Prachnio (11-2) and Jake Butler (7-1). The former is coming off back-to-back ONE Championship wins, while the latter has already won seven fights for Asia’s biggest MMA promotion, making this a potential title eliminator.

In featherweight action, Vincent Latoel (16-17-2) faces Edward Kelly (7-2), Sami Amin (5-3-1) takes on Anthony Engelen (4-2), and Yohan Legowo (8-4) goes up against fellow Indonesian Su Noto (4-2). Another fight announced was a bantamweight bout between Mario Wirawan (5-3) and Bernard Soriano (2-2).
