Promotion officials on Monday announced that Maynard and Lauzon had verbally agreed to the pairing, which will take place in Las Vegas at UFC 155. A venue for the event, which is expected to include a heavyweight title rematch between Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez, has yet to be announced.
Lauzon is coming off a memorable third-round submission victory over Jamie Varner at UFC on Fox 4, a bout that ranks among the best of 2012. The Massachusetts native earned both “Fight of the Night” and “Submission of the Night” honors for his efforts, giving him 11 post-fight bonuses in his UFC career. “J-Lau” has won three of his last four fights overall, with his only loss coming to Anthony Pettis during that time.
After twice failing to wrest the lightweight crown from Frankie Edgar in 2011, Maynard got back in the win column with a split-decision triumph over Clay Guida at UFC on FX 4 in June. “The Bully” also owns notable victories over Edgar, Kenny Florian, Nate Diaz and Jim Miller during his UFC career.
