In what will be the UFC’s next to last live fight card on Versus – the sports network will be changing its name to NBC Sports on Jan. 2, 2012 – Leonard Garcia has been forced off next week’s UFC on Versus 5 fight card in Milwaukee, Wis.
Octagon newbie Jim Hettes will take his place against Alex Caceres.
“Leonard Garcia is out with an injury, so newly signed prospect Jim Hettes is taking his place vs. Alex ‘Bruce Leroy’ Caceres on Aug. 14 in Milwaukee,” UFC president Dana White announced on Tuesday.
“Hettes is undefeated as a pro and has finished all opponents by submission. Caceres has also never gone the distance. Both fighters have verbally agreed to the bout.”
Hettes is 8-0 as a professional with a strong Brazilian jiu-jitsu game. This will mark the first time he has fought professionally outside of Pennsylvania or Maryland. He was initially offered to fight on “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 12 finale in Las Vegas, but was already under contract with a regional promotion.
Caceres (5-3) made his way to the UFC as a cast member of TUF 12. He lost to eventual finalist Michael Johnson in the quarterfinal round of the show’s tournament format.
Welterweights Dan Hardy and Chris Lytle headline UFC on Versus 5 on Aug. 14 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee.
