Legacy FC 23 Results: Tim Means & Leonard Garcia Nab Wins; Pete Spratt Considers Retirement

Legacy FC 23 took place on Friday night at the Cowboys Dancehall in San Antonio with two UFC vets getting back on the horse, while another called it quits after a disappointing loss.

Pete Spratt started strong against Tim Means, showing good head movement and taking the fight to his younger opponent, but he just couldn’t find an opening in time.

Means, however, did. As he edged towards Spratt, Means slipped off to Spratt’s right, blocking his right arm as he did so, which gave him an open shot to the head. He took it.

Means unleashed a vicious pair of elbow strikes that sent Spratt to the canvas, followed him down and unleashed several punches before the referee stepped in to wave off the fight.

This was Means’ first fight since his UFC release, and he was appreciative of the opportunity.

“Pete’s a legend, thanks for having me in here,” he said after the fight. “Legacy gave me a job, so Legacy, thank you.”

After Means was done on the mic, Spratt jumped on and announced his retirement.

“I always said that if I ever lost bad like that by being knocked out, this is the first time I’ve been knocked out, you’ve probably seen that last of Pete Spratt,” he declared.

“I had four guys win tonight, so it looks like it’s gonna be better for me to be coaching than to be getting in here at 42 years of age.”

Spratt has been fighting since 1999, amassing a record of 25-23 during his professional tenure.

Leonard Garcia has made no secret out of the fact that he wants to get back into the UFC. He signed on with Legacy so that he’d have a home to fight the type of fights that could eventually help him achieve that goal.

Friday night’s fight with Nick Gonzalez was one such fight. It was almost like watching Garcia fight himself.

Garcia and Gonzalez went toe-to-toe from the opening bell, Garcia quickly establishing himself as the more affluent striker. But every time he rocked his opponent, Garcia came back at him twice as hard, much like the way Garcia fights.

Each man rocked the other throughout the fight, but it was Garcia that was generally a step ahead throughout. And just when it looked like the bout would go wire to wire, Garcia scored a takedown late in the fight, sunk in a tight rear naked choke, and forced Gonzalez to tap.

Garcia is now 2-0 since exiting the UFC. With more performances like Friday night’s fight, Legacy may not be able to hold onto him much longer, but they’ll surely enjoy having him on the roster while they can.
