Season two of Malaysian Invasion, the tournament launched by Tune Talk last year, is already underway, but for last year’s winners Las Vegas beckons as they are flying out to compete at the IMMAF World Championships.
The inaugural IMMAF World Championships gets underway on June 30as part of the UFC’s International Fight Week. The five Malaysians will be testing their skills against opponents from all over the world in this amateur event.
The MIMMA season 1 winners making the trip are 185-pound champion Jim Chong Jing Yi, 145-pound champion Keanu Subba, 170-pound champion Oi Aik Tong, 155-pound champion Allen Chong, 135-pound champion Prabu Somanaidu, and heavyweight champion Adrian Tham.
Fans might be familiar with Chong because he appeared on the inaugural season of TUF: China, but struggled with injury during his time in the house and was eliminated at the quarterfinal stage in episode 7.
Malaysia has one of the most rapidly growing MMA scenes anywhere in the world with Tune Talk expanding its annual Malaysian Invasion tournament this year to take in provinces all over the country.
However, the sport is still in its infancy in the Southeast Asian country and it will be interesting to see whether the MIMMA champions can compete against amateurs in the U.S., some of whom might have decades of wrestling experience.
