Former “Ultimate Fighter” finalist Kris McCray will be doing a weekly blog for MMAWeekly.com leading up to his fight against John Hathaway at UFC Fight Night 24. Here is the second edition.
This week we started with my boy Blu, doing circuit training at All Star Sports Academy. Circuit training is a great form of exercise to acquaint yourself with if you plan to compete in mixed martial arts.
It allows you to work on strength and cardio at the same time. In addition to that, circuit training has the potential to burn an amazing amount of calories. This training in the beginning can be a little rough. You have to get very comfortable with the system but it will improve your overall MMA leaps and bounds.
Sparring and rolling went exceptionally well this week. Going 5 rounds 5 minutes of full MMA sparring with big gloves and shin pads with a new guy every round. My conditioning is improving and is peaking right where I need it to be.
My timing, technique, and overall mat patience is at the point where nothing fazes me and lets me know. I am close to being ready. March is a big month for the UFC. Opening up with the Diego Sanchez vs Martin Kampmann fight. Awesome fight!
Then up next is the 205 title fight between Jon Jones vs Shogun. Then I heard Spike and the UFC are having tryouts for 135 and 145 weight classes. My card will round out the action packed month.
Good luck to Justin “The Butcher” Hickey and Jimmy “The Kid” Hettes at the tryout this month hope to see you at the big show soon.
Not to forget and with special thanks to the women and men who serve our country the Verizon center is having a military appreciation day Saturday March 12. If not for them we couldn’t enjoy our everyday lives.
