Konstantin Erokhin positive for steroids following December's TUF 22 Finale

Drug test results from a trio of December events in Las Vegas are back, and one former UFC fighter came up positive for banned substances.

Heavyweight Konstantin Erokhin, who lost a decision to onetime title challenger Gabriel Gonzaga at The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale, tested positive for the steroid drostanolone and is temporarily suspended pending a formal hearing into the matter.

Erokhin’s case will be heard by the Nevada State Athletic Commission during its Tuesday meeting in Las Vegas.

The NSAC today released drug test results from UFC Fight Night 80, The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale and UFC 194 after a public records request from MMAjunkie in January.

Erokhin (9-3 MMA, 0-2 UFC) reportedly was cut from the UFC after a lackluster decision loss to onetime title challenger Gabriel Gonzaga (17-10 MMA, 12-9 UFC) at the Dec. 11 event at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. He hasn’t fought since the bout.

No other fighter tested positive for banned substances in relation to the three events. UFC 194 headliners Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo were tested by UFC anti-doping partner USADA both in- and out-of-competition and passed, though one of Aldo’s out-of-competition blood tests was deemed “void.” A request for clarification on the void is pending with USADA.

McGregor (19-2 MMA, 7-0 UFC) knocked out Aldo (25-2 MMA, 7-1 UFC) in 13 seconds to win the UFC featherweight title at the Dec. 12 event at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Chris Weidman, who lost the UFC middleweight title to Luke Rockhold in UFC 194’s co-headliner, was tested out-of-competition by USADA and passed, though his in-competition tests were canceled. A request for clarification on the cancelation is pending with USADA.

The drug test results reveal USADA’s increased role in drug testing UFC events, with the testing firm conducting in- and out-of-competition testing for all headliners and select main-card participants. In the case of UFC 194, the four top-billed fighters were tested (with the exception of Weidman’s in-competition tests). Between USADA and the NSAC, every fighter on each card was tested in- or out-of-competition, and in many cases, both.
