Much has been made recently about the war of words between UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos and former Strikeforce and Dream champion Alistair Overeem.
The two were initially slated to square off at UFC 146 in May, but the fight fell apart when red lights went off concerning Overeem’s results stemming from a surprise drug test following a UFC 146 press conference.
They both want to fight each other, but it remains to be seen when that will happen. Dos Santos is on tap to defend against Cain Velasquez next, while Overeem sits on the sidelines through December as a sanction from the drug test results.
Overeem is doing and saying everything he can to make sure the interest in the fight remains, but dos Santos told UFC Ultimate Insider host Jon Anik that, although he knows that Overeem is tough and it’s a fight he wants, Velasquez is the fighter most deserving of a title shot right now.
