Julian Erosa Heads into CageSport 25 Looking to Earn His Way Back to the Belt

After suffering his first loss late last year, featherweight prospect Julian Erosa rebounded earlier this year in convincing fashion with a win over Jason Gybels at CageSport 24.

“I’d fought him once before and knocked him out, so going into that fight I wasn’t going to say it was easy, but it’s always a confidence booster whenever you’ve beat them convincingly (before),” said Erosa. “So I wasn’t really switching my game plan, I just kind of did the same thing, and I ended up getting him with a submission in the second round.

“My plan was to go in there, wear him down, and capitalize on it. That was definitely a boost in the right direction coming off the loss to (Drew) Brokenshire.”

Erosa will be looking to get his second straight win and take one step closer to challenging for the CageSport 145-pound title in an eliminator match against Lee Morrison at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Wash., on July 6.

“They call him the ‘American Bulldog’ for a reason, so I’m sure he’ll get in my face and try to take me down and beat me up, which is fine with me,” Erosa said about Morrison. “I’m used to people trying to take me down and trying to beat me up or sub me.

“It’s going to be hard for him disguise what he’s going to be good at, so it’s easier for me to prepare for him and focus on how I can capitalize on being persistent and using his strengths against him.”

The winner of Erosa versus Morrison is most likely going to take on the winner of the evening’s main event title bout between Brokenshire and challenger Shorty Weikel.

For Erosa, getting a chance to face Brokenshire again is something he’s looking forward to, but as he told MMAWeekly.com, it’s not essential in the overall scheme of things.

“I don’t have anything against Brokenshire, he beat me in a five-round decision. Congrats to him for winning that, but I don’t have to fight him again to redeem myself,” said Erosa. “I’d love to do that, but if I move on to other things, then that’s just what it’s going to be.

“I’m not out for revenge. I’m out to be successful in my career; that’s my main goal. I want to win my next two fights, get my belt back and then if I get any other opportunities to go to a bigger show, I’d like to take that opportunity and get my name out there as far as I can.”
