Jorge Santiago, Justin Guthrie Make Weight For Showdown at TFC 23 ‘Fight for the Troops’

Jorge Santiago was successful in his first venture with Titan Fighting Championship, scoring a first-round knockout of Leonardo Pecanha at TFC 21 in March. He will look to build on that momentum against short-notice opponent Justin Guthrie at TFC 23 "Fight for the Troops" tonight in Fort Riley, Kan.

Santiago tipped the scales at 182.8 pounds for his headlining middleweight bout with Guthrie (184.8). Co-main event competitors Josh Huber (145.4) and Joe Wilk (146) also met their contracted weights at Thursday’s weigh-ins without issue.

A former Sengoku middleweight champion, Santiago returned to the UFC in 2011 after a five-year absence. Despite being one of the most highly-regarded fighters in the world at his weight class, the Brazilian struggled in the Octagon, suffering a second-round TKO defeat to Brian Stann before dropping a three-round decision to Demain Maia at UFC 136. The Imperial Athletics member owns notable career victories against the likes of Kazuo Misaki, Mamed Khalidov, Siyar Bahadurzada, Jeremy Horn and Trevor Prangley, among others.

Guthrie, who stepped in when Jay Silva withdrew from the headliner, brings a four-fight winning streak into his matchup with Santiago. The Colorado Fight Factory representative is 2-0 thus far in 2012, with victories over Jonathan Knutson and John Malbrough. The main card for TFC 23 “Fight for the Troops” airs live on HDNet tonight at 10 p.m. ET.
