Less than 24 hours after the announcement was made that UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones would face Glover Teixeira in the UFC 170 main event, the champion revealed that he would not be ready for the Feb. 22 event due a foot injury he suffered in his unanimous decision win over Alexander Gustafsson on Sept. 21.
Jones’ manager, Malki Kawa, informed UFC Tonight that Jones would be taking the rest of 2013 off and will get back into training in January.
Jones’ UFC 165 opponent, Gustafsson, headlines a UFC Fight Night card against undefeated Jimi Manuwa on March 8 in London.
Jones expects to return to action around March or April.
