Joe Lauzon wants to silence armchair trainers and critics at UFC on FOX 9

Losing two fights in a row – the most recent in his home state of Massachusetts – was bad enough for Joe Lauzon. But then came the armchair trainers, who seemed to know exactly what the fighter needed to do to end the skid.

Needless to say, Lauzon wasn’t exactly eager to hear their advice, and instead, he said he thinks he’s made the needed tweaks to come out successful at Saturday’s UFC on FOX 9 event.

“It was driving me crazy, losing two fights in a row for the first time,” Lauzon told MMAjunkie. “And I had everyone trying – everyone had the silver bullet. Everyone was going to fix me. Everyone had the piece that was missing. I’m like, short of Kenny Florian, I’ve done definitely the best of anyone from New England.

“But now everyone has the solution. So it was a little bit weird, everyone telling me I don’t know what I’m doing and I don’t know how to train and I don’t know how to do this and do that. But we kept just doing what we’re doing and just made a few little tweaks.”

Lauzon (22-9 MMA, 9-6 UFC) is confident those minor modifications will make a big difference when he meets fellow lightweight Mac Danzig (21-11-1 MMA, 5-7 UFC) on the FOX-televised main card of UFC on FOX 9, which takes place at Sacramento’s Sleep Train Arena.

The fighter, who holds the UFC record (with Anderson Silva) with his 12 fight-night bonuses, said he got a boost when his bout was recently promoted to the main card. Of course, the same social media that was driving Lauzon crazy with fans’ critiques ultimately delivered the good news.

“It was nice,” he said of the main-card promotion. “It was kind of crappy being so far down on the prelims. I was like, ‘Aw, I thought we’d be a little higher up.’ But yeah, it was awesome. I didn’t even get a call. I read about it on Twitter.”
