Veteran lightweights Joe Lauzon (22-9 MMA, 9-6 UFC) and Mac Danzig (21-11-1 MMA, 5-7 UFC) have been scheduled for a meeting later this year at UFC on FOX 9.
UFC officials announced the bout overnight.
“UFC on FOX 9: Pettis vs. Thomson” takes place Dec. 14 at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Calif. The main card airs on FOX following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and Facebook.
It’s not clear where Lauzon vs. Danzig, two veterans of “The Ultimate Fighter,” will be placed on the lineup.
Although once in title contention, Lauzon now finds himself in a must-wins situation following back-to-back losses and three defeats in his past four fights. While one of the 155-pound division’s most entertaining fighters and a fan favorite, his past two bouts – against Jim Miller and Michael Johnson – have ended in unanimous-decision losses.
Lauzon, who’s won a UFC record 12 fight-night bonuses, now meets Danzig, who’s also lost two straight and three of his past four. The three-time “Fight of the Night” winner most recently suffered a second-round TKO loss to Melvin Guillard. Prior to that, he suffered a narrow split-decision defeat to Takanori Gomi.
