Canadian fans in Toronto on April 30 may not get the two title fights they had hoped for, but they are going to get a slew of countryman to cheer for at UFC 129: St-Pierre vs. Shields.
UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will defend his belt against Jake Shields on his home turf, while the co-main event is expected to feature UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture and former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida.
Besides St-Pierre, other Canadians rumored for UFC 129 include: Mark Bocek, Sean Pierson, Yves Jabouin, Claude Patrick, Rory MacDonald, and Ivan Menjivar, an El Salvadorian by birth, he now calls Montreal home.
Add to that list Jason MacDonald, who is expected to face Ryan Jensen at UFC 129. MMAWeekly.com sources confirmed that verbal agreements are in place for the bout first reported by Sportsnet.ca.
MacDonald (24-14) is getting another shot in the Octagon after losing to John Salter at UFC 113. He lost the bout via TKO due to a broken leg during a takedown. Prior to that loss, MacDonald was on a three-fight winning streak.
Jensen’s (15-7) last five fights have been in the Octagon, where he’s ridden a roller coaster of sorts. He has alternated losses with wins, going 2-3 during his latest UFC stint, 2-5 overall in the Octagon. Jensen likely needs a win over MacDonald to remain on the promotion’s roster.
