Jake Ellenberger vs. Jorge Masvidal booked for December's TUF 24 Finale in Las Vegas

After losing out on a marquee matchup against Kelvin Gastelum, Jorge Masvidal will get another notable name in the UFC welterweight division later this year.

Masvidal (30-11 MMA, 7-4 UFC) will face Jake Ellenberger (31-11 MMA, 10-7 UFC) in the latest addition to December’s lineup for The Ultimate Fighter 24 Finale.

UFC officials today announced the bout following an initial report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The Ultimate Fighter 24 Finale takes place Dec. 3 at The Pearl at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. The event airs on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Masvidal expressed serious frustration when after being announce for a key matchup against Gastelum at UFC Fight Night 97 on Nov. 5, his opponent was taken off the card and booked in a different matchup against Donald Cerrone at UFC 205 one week later. He called out a number of fighters to step in as his opponent, but several of his desired matchups didn’t come to fruition.

Nevertheless, “Gamebred” will attempt to string together consecutive wins for the first time in more than two years when he takes on Ellenberger. Masvidal moved up to the welterweight division in July 2015, but has split results in his four fights at the weight class. He beat Cezar Ferreira and Ross Pearson, but lost to Lorenz Larkin and Benson Henderson.

Ellenberger, meanwhile, is coming off arguably the most crucial victory of his career. With a string of five losses in six fights, albeit against some of the top competition in the welterweight division, “The Juggernaut” was on the verge of being released from the organization he’s been in since September 2009.

With his job on the line, Ellenberger fought Matt Brown at UFC 201 in July and came out determined for victory. He becames the first to stop “The Immortal” with strikes when he scored a first-round TKO finish. Ellenberger hasn’t won back-to-back fights since March 2013, but will attempt to get some momentum in his career going at Masvidal’s expense.

The latest TUF 24 Finale card now includes:

  • Champ Demetrious Johnson vs. TBA – for flyweight title
  • Joseph Benavidez vs. Henry Cejudo
  • Ryan Hall vs. Gray Maynard
  • Jake Ellenberger vs. Jorge Masvidal
