Invicta FC 17 Results: Tonya Evinger Retains 135-Pound Belt; Angela Hill Wins Strawweight Strap

Invicta FC hit Southern California on Saturday night and the ladies did not disappoint.

In the evening’s main event, Tonya Evinger successfully defended her bantamweight title against a game Colleen Schneider in a five-round affair. Evinger showed to be the better fighter on Saturday night, grabbing judges’ scores of 49-45, 50-44 and 50-44.

For 25 minutes, both ladies pressed the action. Evinger, however, was able to utilize the takedown to her advantage throughout the fight and set the pace of the evening’s featured contest.

With the win, Evinger wins her ninth in a row and hasn’t lost a fight in nearly five years.

In the co-main event, “Ultimate Fighter” alum Angela Hill had arguably the biggest moment of her career by beating Livia Renata Souza and earning the Invicta strawweight title. Judges saw the fight in Hill’s favor with scores of 48-47, 47-48 and 48-47.

Hill was able to avoid a number of submission attempts from Souza, taking advantage of a tiring champion and hitting open spots. Since being cut by the UFC last year, Hill has won three in a row and improves to 5-2, not to mention earning a brand new gold belt.

Charmaine Tweet had one of the most memorable moments of the night, finishing Latoya Walker with a sequence that started with a spinning backfist. Walker held the edge on the feet until her opponent landed the surprise strike that dropped her to the floor. Tweet pursued to the ground and finished the bout with strikes at 3:41 or the first round.

Earlier winners included Kaline Medeiros with a TKO of Alline Serio, as well as Megan Anderson with a first-round stoppage of Amanda Bell. Christine Stanley, Rachael Ostovich and Laura Howrath all picked up decision wins.
