UFC officials Friday announced the booking, which takes place Sept. 4 at the Jornalista Felipe Drumond Stadium in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The show is headlined by a titular light heavyweight conflict between Glover Teixeira and Ryan Bader and will also see ex-Strikeforce champ Ronaldo Souza lock horns with former UFC title contender Yushin Okami in a pivotal middleweight duel.
Known in his native country of Brazil as “Hugo Wolverine,” Viana was handed his first career defeat this past April, when the hard-punching bantamweight was knocked out by “Ultimate Fighter 14” finalist T.J. Dillashaw. Prior to that setback, Viana had won seven straight fights, beginning his UFC career with victories over John Teixeira da Conceicao and Reuben Duran last year.
In Bedford, Viana faces another “TUF 14” alum, as the 30-year-old was eliminated in the show’s semifinals by eventual winner John Dodson. Following that exhibition defeat, “Brutal” rattled off back-to-back wins to start his Octagon career, knocking out Louis Gaudinot before doing the same to Marcos Vinicius Borges Pancini to close out 2012. Most recently, Bedford was handed his first UFC defeat by Bryan Caraway, who submitted the Ohio native with a third-round guillotine choke at UFC 159.
