Highly touted bantamweight Cory Tait signs five-fight deal with Cage Warriors

cory-tait.jpgCage Warriors Fighting Championship took another step to bolster its roster with the announcement of the signing of a highly touted bantamweight.

Cory Tait (7-2) has signed a deal with the promotion, officials on Friday announced. The Brit, who is riding a three-fight winning streak, inked a contract for five fights.

“I’m excited to be signing with Cage Warriors,” Tait stated. “Like myself, the promotion has come a long way in the last few years. I think this is the perfect time for me to show what I’m capable of and for Cage Warriors to have me.”

Tait joins a bantamweight lineup in the promotion that includes fighters such as Ronnie Mann and James Brum, in addition to four fighters who next month will compete in a four-man, single-night 135-pound tournament at Cage Warriors 59 in Wales. James Pennington meets Martin McDonough and David Haggstrom takes on Brett Johns. One of those four will emerge as champion, and then will have fighters like Tait, Mann and Brum likely waiting in the wings.

Tait, 25, has a background in kickboxing, and all seven of his career victories have come inside the distance. The Brit has been stopping opponents with his fists (three of his knockouts), his legs (a front-kick KO) and his ground game (three submissions).

Most recently, he knocked out Spencer Hewitt in the first round of Ultimate Challenge MMA 33 in April.

Tait also held both bantamweight and featherweight titles for UCMMA, where eight of his nine pro fights took place. So he likely has his sights squared on getting a belt for Cage Warriors.

Tait’s first fight for the promotion has not yet been announced.
