Hardcore Championship Fighting releases Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos; Santos signs three fight contract with Strikeforce

Hardcore Championship Fighting issued a press release Friday morning announcing the release of Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos from the promotion.

According to the release, Santos’ existing contract was “terminated” after he breached it.

“This is due to the fact that Mr. Santos chose to execute a competing contract inside the minimum time period allowed by HCF’s terms for fighters to engage in other events”, CEO Keith Crawford explained in the press release.

Santos, 15-11, is a former PRIDE competitor who made his HCF debut on February 1, losing to Gegard Mousasi via TKO at 3:42 of round 1.

Update: Ron Kruck reported on Friday’s airing of “Inside MMA” on HDNet that Strikeforce Vice President Mike Afromowitz informed the show that Santos has been signed to a three fight contract by the promotion to fight in the United States. A debut date was not reported.
