Georges St. Pierre-Johny Hendricks Title Fight Set for Nov. 16, Likely as UFC 167 Headliner

Georges St. Pierre’s upcoming welterweight title defense against Johny Hendricks will take place Nov. 16, promotion officials announced Tuesday during “UFC Tonight” on Fuel TV.

The 170-pound clash will headline the show, which is expected to serve as UFC 167. Though a venue has not yet been announced for the event, it is slated to take place in Las Vegas and air live on pay-per-view.

St. Pierre, 32, has long been regarded as one of the sports best pound-for-pound talents. “Rush” has won 11 straight fights heading into the ninth title defense of his current reign. The Quebec native returned from a torn ACL last year to best interim titlist Carlos Condit before doing the same to Nick Diaz on March 16, taking a unanimous decision from the former Strikeforce king at UFC 158.

Hendricks, meanwhile, has won six straight fights heading into his first shot at the welterweight crown. “Bigg Rigg” has beaten some of the division’s best talent during that stretch, knocking out Jon Fitch and Martin Kampmann while taking razor-thin decisions from Josh Koscheck and Mike Pierce. Like St. Pierre, Hendricks last competed at UFC 158, where he snatched a unanimous decision from Condit to earn his crack at the belt.
