Gegard Mousasi: ‘I’m Coming for the Top Five Middleweights’

Ninth-ranked middleweight Gegard Mousasi is looking for a top five-ranked opponent for his next fight after dominating Thales Leites at UFC Fight Night 84 on Saturday.

“I’m coming for the top five middleweights,” he said during his backstage interview at the O2 Arena in London.

Michael Bisping and Vitor Belfort are at the top of his list of potential opponents.

“I was scheduled to fight Michael Bisping. He’s a very well known name. He’s a great fighter,” said Mousasi during the UFC Fight Night 84 post-fight press conference. “I don’t know, Vitor Belfort. I’ve been chasing that fight for a long time.”

While “The Dreamcatcher” would prefer to face Bisping or Belfort next, he’s also open to other match-ups.

“I just have to see who they give me. Vitor Belfort, I’ve been looking for that fight for a long time. Michael Bisping, Anderson Silva, a rematch with Uriah Hall. Whoever they give me,” he said.

Heading into Saturday’s bout with Leites, Mousasi was coming off of a loss to Hall.  After dominating Hall in the opening round at UFC Fight Night 75 in September, Hall dropped Mousasi with a flying knee and finished the fight with punches.  Mousasi attributes the loss to taking unnecessary risks.

“Last fight I took chances and I paid for that. If I fight the way that I want, I can beat those guys.”

“The Count” seemed open to the idea of fighting Mousasi.

“I’ve never seen so much personality out of Gegard Mousasi. I like this Gegard,” said Bisping.
