Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic is no longer a UFC fighter, but his influence is still being felt in the Octagon.
Following a submission victory over Cro Cop in November, Alexey Oleinik has signed to face Jared Rosholt in a heavyweight bout at UFC on Fox 10 on Jan. 25 in Chicago.
UFC officials announced Oleinik’s signing and the bout on Saturday.
Going by the moniker “The Boa Constrictor,” the 36-year-old Oleinik (48-9-1) has 39 submission victories to his credit, the majority of which were some form a choke.
Currently riding a nine-fight winning streak, Oleinik most recently submitted Cro Cop on his home turf in Russia event in early November. That victory followed wins over Dion Staring and Jeff Monson.
Rosholt (9-1) made his UFC debut at the TUF 18 Finale on Nov. 30, winning a unanimous decision over fellow debutant Walt Harris. He is currently on a five-fight winning streak heading into the bout with Oleinik.
A five-round, lightweight non-title fight between former UFC champion Benson Henderson and former Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson headlines the UFC on Fox 10 fight card at the United Center.
