Frankie Edgar Wants to Fight at TUF 22 Finale; Willing Aldo or McGregor Replacement

Frankie Edgar Wants to Fight at TUF 22 Finale; Willing Aldo or McGregor Replacement

If former UFC lightweight champion turned featherweight contender Frankie Edgar doesn’t get a fight in December, it won’t be for a lack of trying.

He feels he’s been passed over for a title shot for the better part of a year, and he’s ready and willing to step in if either Jose Aldo or Conor McGregor backs out of their UFC 194 headlining bout, as he seems to think one of them will, but he won’t sit idly by and wait for that to happen.

Edgar was already passed over once as a last-minute replacement for Aldo when he dropped out of the fight with McGregor at UFC 189 due to a rib injury, and there seems to be plenty of fighters that want to fight him, so Edgar went on the offensive on Monday, saying he wants to fight on Dec. 11, which happens to be The Ultimate Fighter 22 season finale. The event takes place the night prior to UFC 194, and both are being held in Las Vegas.

Edgar is obviously trying to position himself in a win-win situation.

He’s been called out by Jeremy Stephens and Max Holloway. Holloway is coming off of a TKO stoppage of Charles Oliveira due to injury on Sunday night, and in the midst of the seven-fight winning streak. Edgar vs. Holloway would certainly make a fan-friendly headliner for the currently headless TUF 22 Finale.

Frankie Edgar UFC 156 PostThat would keep Edgar busy if there are no changes in the UFC 194 headliner and a win would continue to cement him as the top contender in the featherweight division. But if something were to happen to either Aldo or Edgar, he would be well-prepared to step in for either on any sort of notice.

UFC officials have yet to comment on Edgar pressing to fight in December, but fans on Twitter are certainly ready for “The Answer” to step back in the Octagon.
