Flyweight Prospect Rachael Ostovich Targets Invicta FC 14 Fight of the Night

In her Invicta FC debut last December, flyweight prospect Rachael Ostovich came out on top of a close split-decision against Evva Johnson, though she doesn’t feel the fight was as close as the scorecards indicated.

“I was actually surprised it was a split-decision,” Ostovich told MMAWeekly.com. “I thought I had more of an edge in the rounds. That’s why you should never leave it in the hands of the judges. I’m just glad I won. I wish I would have finished it, but other than that, I’m grateful for the victory.”

Having spent much of her career in Hawaii, making the jump to Invicta and gaining some mainland success was a big thing for Ostovich.

After fighting in Invicta, I don’t want to fight in any other organization. Everything was organized, there were no questions, and everything was already laid out. It was what I expected and more.”

Having been nine months since she last fought, Ostovich is eager to return and showcase her development during her time off.

“I’m never a big fan of having this much time off,” she said. “I always like to stay active. If I could, I would fight every weekend, that’s how much I want to get experience. It’s hard for me to be patient with a good attitude, so I’m so glad I’m getting back in the cage.

“I think I got to work on a lot of things that needed to be sharpened up as far as my ground and stand-up game. I’m really excited to show Invicta fans what I have and what I’ve been working so hard on.”

Ostovich (2-1) will get to see if her improved game will help her pick up her third straight victory when she takes on Andrea Lee (2-1) in a feature 125-pound bout at Invicta 14 on Saturday in Kansas City.

“Andrea is a really tough girl,” said Ostovich. “She has beautiful stand-up. She’s known to be a kickboxer, so I know it’s going to be a tough fight. A lot of people are saying it’s going to be Fight of the Night, and I’m going to have to agree with that.

“I’ve been training really hard on my stand-up defense and all of that. I’m pretty sure I can hold my own anywhere it goes in this match. I’m going to take it as it comes and just go for the finish.”

While Ostovich feels like her bout with Lee is important, she isn’t going to pressure herself too much about the outcome, but instead just focus on having a good performance.

“I don’t want to say that this fight is a make-or-break fight for me, because even if it does not turn out in my favor, I still have a bright future, but I feel if I do win, it’ll definitely boost my career and give me more opportunities,” said Ostovich. “I’m just really excited for this fight.”
