Fedor Topples Pedro Rizzo, Leaves Talk of Retirement in Limbo

Fedor Emelianenko may or may not have fought for the final time at Thursday’s M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Rizzo at the Ice Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia. Whether the one-time top heavyweight in the world calls it quits or not remains to be seen, but if he does, he’s going out on a high note.

Fedor on Thursday dropped UFC veteran Pedro Rizzo with a punch in the early moments of their fight, finishing him off with a few more strikes after he fell.

Once seemingly indestructible, Fedor suffered a three-fight skid during his Strikeforce tenure that made him human again. He has since gone on a three-fight winning streak, defeating Jeff Monson, Satoshi Ishii, and now Rizzo.

Prior to the fight, Fedor had made comments to a Russian language TV station, indicating that he was prepared to retire following the fight with Rizzo, but lately, he has distanced himself from such comments, leaving everyone to wonder if he might step back in the ring once again.

Following his victory over Rizzo, a faction of Fedor fans took to Twitter and other forms of social media to call for Fedor to be brought back to Strikeforce to face Heavyweight Grand Prix winner Daniel Cormier.

The odds are rather slim that Fedor will ever be invited back to a Zuffa-owned promotion, as company officials have had no luck negotiating with Fedor’s management team at M-1 Global… but stranger things have happened.
