Fan Perspective: Is Fabricio Werdum the heavyweight GOAT?

With Fabricio Werdum’s shockingly dominant title win over Cain Velasquez at UFC 188, a new question had to be asked of MMA fans: Is Werdum the best heavyweight in MMA history?

The idea that Werdum (20-5-1 MMA, 8-2 UFC) would be in the discussion seemed absurd just a few years ago. Now it seems hard to make a case against it. Werdum has, after all, submitted three of the greatest heavyweights in the history of the sport in Velasquez, Fedor Emelianenko and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Veteran MMA analyst “Showdown Joe” Ferraro took to social media to ask fans where they have placed Werdum in the historical heavyweight hierarchy and some of the responses were surprising.

Check out the video above to get Ferraro’s insight and see the reactions of fans.

UFC 188 took place at Mexico City Arena with the main card airing on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and UFC Fight Pass.
