Ronda Rousey is headed into the biggest fight of her mixed martial arts career when she faces Miesha Tate on March 3. The two will battle for Tate’s Strikeforce women’s bantamweight championship in the night’s main event.
Having won a bronze medal in Judo in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Rousey knows what pressure is, but she says the pressure in an MMA fight, while substantial, doesn’t compare to what she faced as an Olympian.
“It’s not like Olympics pressure. It’s not like I’ve been preparing for four years for this one day. MMA matches are easier because I get to take them one at a time.”
In an exclusive interview with MMAWeekly.com’s Damon Martin, Rousey also shot down doubters who say that there are other fighters, such as Sarah Kaufman and Alexis Davis, who maybe should have gotten a title shot before her.
“I deserve this because I think the other two girls have records are more impressive than their actual performances. I also have the Olympic background that should be to my credit.”
