Eddie Alvarez Reportedly Missed the Boat to UFC New York, Offered Slot in Toronto | MMAWeekly.com

Rumors swirled around the UFC 205 fight card indicating that a bout pitting Conor McGregor vs. Eddie Alvarez was all but a lock to headline the promotion’s New York debut. A UFC Tonight report on Wednesday asserted that company officials had other plans in mind for their UFC lightweight champion.

Megan Olivi said UFC president Dana White told her that Alvarez had been issued a bout agreement for UFC 205, but the opponent was No. 1 lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov, not McGregor.

The plot thickened, however, when White told Olivi that the bout agreement was accompanied with a deadline, one that Alvarez failed to meet.

Eddie Alvarez - Khabib Nurmagomedov - Conor McGregorWith the deadline passed for New York, the UFC issued a new bout agreement for the same fight, but with a change of venue.

There is now reportedly a bout agreement awaiting Alvarez’s signature that would have him fight Nurmagomedov at UFC 206 on Dec. 10 in Toronto.

While all of this, coupled with another report citing White that McGregor is “nursing a leg injury” that could preclude him from fighting in New York, has left a dark cloud swirling over the UFC 205 main event, it should be clear no later than Tuesday, Sept. 27. The UFC has scheduled a press conference for that date, where White is slated to unveil the full UFC 205 fight card.
