Dustin Poirier knew he was in for a brutal fight when he agreed to face Justin Gaethje in the UFC on FOX 29 main event in Glendale, Az. He also knew that if he finished Gaethje in impressive fashion that he would deserve a crack at new UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
After he did just that, Poirier told reporters at UFC on FOX 29, “It’s time.”
UFC president Dana White admitted after the fight that Poirier is certainly amongst the contenders for the belt, but fell short of declaring him as Nurmagomedov’s first title defense… but he also fell short of saying he wouldn’t be.
